FORWARD
By Lisa Maas
I suppose one could finish this book in one sitting, however I took my time, pondering the author’s words, and pictorial graphics. Overall, I did not read this book as strictly a gender-based book of inspiration and growth — but moving beyond barriers of sexuality and the human psyche.
I was drawn to the cover of this novel because of the cartoon graphics. Flipping through Forward without reading a word of the text, I was immediately taken with how Lisa’s graphics not only conveyed sensitivity and emotion but also how she captures the raw nature of the individual characters. The author’s choice of colour graphics enhances the meaning of this story.
Lisa writes from the heart as the characters struggle through loss, and grief. Then challenging self through doubt, and anxiety — as to what it means to be in love. How does one build a life together with another? Does one ever forget the loss of a loved one? Does one stay bitter because of a break in a relationship?
I journeyed with these two women as they dealt with heartbreak and turmoil. How many layers are there to love? What does it take to move forward? This book is an excellent read.
