An extraordinary journey of a tamil soldier, who left the war, because for that, his whole family died, searches another way to live and ended up in France with a woman and a girl. He slowly seek a family with these unknown persons but have to face a new crisis. The film unfolds it's story gradually with unexpected events, intimate spaces... cinematography very well crafted, superb acting and voice for humane relationship above everything.

This is cult classic! The film of Lee Chang Dong are usually very different from others in realms of theme, protagonist and treatment. This film is like a novel and succeeded in depicting a person's past pain and suffering leading to severe depression and suicide. The film is disturbing and pessimistic, however the inability of some persons to overcome unfortunate life events is justified though it leads to despair....the central idea of the film. Music, cinematography, screenplay are excellent... Characters are overtly, which might be intentional to portray certain personality type.

Anantaram is an experimental non-fiction with unique treatment, screenplay and cinematography. This type of film is rare and deserves special mention. It is like a dream or it pushes you to think that our life is just a dream with no ends...The film is full of subtle tensions with excellent images moving with events and take to you certain end points, which are disturbing sometimes....so here is the strength of this film. The film ends with an intense philosophical dilemma of human mind with a visual, rarely shown in our films...Must watch!

The whole film is like a journey through dreams. Excellent cinematography and the credit goes to the indigenous treatment which is rare & innovative. The background score has been used differently, sometimes it's chaos but it brings a hallucinatory effect, however dramatic and pleasant. In true sense its a cult film.
