I finally got around to watching this movie after 3/4 years of contemplating and glad I did watch it after so long.
Spoilers ahead (I mean, it's a movie that was made 44 yrs ago. Give it a watch)
I only saw Jack Nicholson in other movies such as Batman (1989). Now I seen him as his role of Jack Torrence, a man who takes the job as the winter caretaker of The Overlook Hotel and thought the peace and quiet can help him with a writing project he was working on.
However, the unsettling nature of The Overlook Hotel (The spirit of Delbert Grady, the former caretaker trying to get Jack to "Correct" his family) and a case of writer's block and cabin fever drives Jack Torrence into madness.
Just to not spoil the movie further, The Shining still stands as a remarkable example of the classic horror movie genre with director Stanley Kubrick (Known for Full Metal Jacket, 2001: A Space Oddyssey and Eyes Wide Shut) and definitely stands the test of time as a classic for horror fanatics and fans of Kubrick, and Stephen King.
"You are the caretaker. You've always been the caretaker Mr Torrence."
-Delbert Grady
Edit: This movie has definitely shown that Nicholson has a range in his performances, from a fan favourite intepretation of The Joker (aka Jack Napier) to the unsettling Jack Torrence.
