This is one of the very few public comments of any length that I've written since my days in broacasting, which ended almost 20 years ago.
I have seldom seen a film as technically well-done, and with performances as good as in The Blackcoat's Daughter, that was so disappointing and ultimately unsatisfying. The cinematography and soundtrack are properly creepy. The cast does a fine job with the material, and there are definite moments of genuine horror. But, for me, it was a generally slow-moving (even allowing for the necessity of tension-building), disjointed, virtually plotless muddle of often frustratingly unconnected sequences, with nothing to pull them together at the conclusion. Sorry, but I like to have at least a couple of hows and whys answered.
