This was a defining movie for a generation. Tom Hanks and a cast of now famous actors, many their first major film. Watching it again, reminds me of what it first felt like watching, I was 38 watching it for the first time.Now 63, I watch from a different perspective but with the same emotion, intensity and anger, despair, hope and loss. There is a line from a lesser known movie The War, the narrator says, "People will come to understand war, but war will never understand people!" Most of the mission was trying to figure out why they would risk their lives to save one man, then they realize who, why and what Private Ryan is. Sometimes we know our mission, sometimes the mission reveals itself to you! Sometimes the two converge.

One of my favorite movies, with a message against racism and the treatment of women during a time when chivalry and doing the right thing was dying if not dead. I think 1990 when this was released was a time when a lot music was beginning to glorify drug use, women being seen as less and rape and dominance of the rich and famous glorified This movie dealt with many of these issues when violence and might made right were the norm were addressed in a way that most might want to rethink the slippery slope we were jeadi g down our entertainment message.
