A perfect movie to watch for those who relish looking back at the decades from the 30s up through the 70's. Even if the setting is not in America, as this film was shot in London. The music here is a big plus, too It is given a lot of attention. The plot is interesting, but requires a lot of patience. But for those of us who enjoy movies, every scene means something, and it is fun to watch them. We are never bored. Thank God for maturity.

A favorite movie of mine. Don't nit-pick at any of the implausible plot points, but let the story take you on a ride. Pure fun.

Fun. Not as fun as Red, but fun.

The movie is good. Definitely earns it's R rating. "Helping the helpless" plots always draw me in. And this being a true story makes the plot that more engrossing. Is violence sometimes warranted? Of course it is.

"Violence" is in the title for good reason. But it is dark in another way besides violence. Violence is sometimes necessary to preserve good in society. But the darkness this movie presents is that which is in human hearts. Some of the scenes are hard to watch not only due to violent behavior, but due to the evil acts done on the innocent by men who enjoy doing such evil. One scene in particular shows no violence, but the act done and not shown is heinous. Because of who the victim is and the callousness of the perpetrator. But as a movie, A History Of Violence is well done in every aspect. The movie flies by -- partly because it is only 80 minutes long, and also because of the intensity entwined into the movie. A viewer knows there is a violent turn pending in the story, and this anticipation can cause him to lose track of time. Suddenly the movie ends.

Just watched the movie again -- The Ultimate Director's Cut. This version only adds 76 seconds to the original , which was mostly taken up by an introduction from the director. While the movie has it's obvious flaws, my 5-Star rating is rooted in it's sentimental value [ I saw it as a teen at the drive-in when it first opened in 1978 ], as well as it's " cool " points. Plus, the movie, while juvenile in it's plot [ the director Walter Hill says in the extras on the DVD that he realized early on that the only way he could make the movie work was to implement a comic book feel to it ] , does have a good story -- it makes sense in it's own context. The acting is not bad. The fight scenes are pretty darn good, even for today. The movie has some iconic lines -- Can you dig it ? and Warriors, come out to play-ee-ay !! -- to mention a couple. The soundtrack is cool -- even unique. And the movie is simply fun to watch.

While the plot is forced a little, the storyline is a good idea and fun to follow. You want to see how it all resolves, although one can guess with a pretty high degree of certainty how the movie ends. The film moves at an ok pace. The acting is good, which helps buy what the screenwriters are selling. If you can let yourself get lost in the story, you will enjoy this movie.

Good movie. Fun to watch. Critics want to be critics instead of letting a movie take you for a ride. This one does.

I recall being real excited when the commercials started showing up on TV for this series, informing us that it was premiering soon. I was in my late teens and a big R & R fan. How could the show fail -- it had current rock hits with cool dudes and hot chick's? The show didn't disappoint. The acting was good, not to mention the occasional hit rock song being played. And not just a second or two of these songs, either. I just watched an episode on Decades that played a solid minute of Dogs from Pink Floyd's Animals album. [ it may have been Sheep or Pigs, but I think it was Dogs ] I was disappointed when they canceled the series after the 4th season, but it was good to read that the show was immediately popular when it went into syndication.
