This book is very relatable, especially to students in high school (which is the when people usually first read it). The themes of teenage angst is something a lot of teenagers can relate to. The reviews that say that Holden Caulfield, the main character of the book, is insufferable, are probably adults and have forgot their teenage years, or children who have had a pretty good childhood, or have been too sheltered from the evils of the world. This book explores the difficulty of teenagers caught in between the adult world and the child’s world, and trying to transition to the adult one but still being a part of the children’s one. This, again, is relatable to teenagers. Me and others often find that we’re treated like children but expected to act like adults. Many teenagers also battle with their mental health, which is also represented in the book so if you’re battling it know you’re not alone, Holden Caulfield feels the same and many teenagers relate to Holden, so..
Anyway, now that I’ve made my case, I would like to sum it up a little. The Catcher in the Rye is a very great book that every teenager should read. There’s a reason it’s a school assigned book.
