Gehraiyaan is Shakun Batra’s take on Abbas-Mustan’s line of direction. A poor take to say the best, and I can say this after watching most of their movies in my childhood and enjoying the genre it offered as per Bollywood’s standards of thriller in those years.
The only reason of me turning to watch this movie was the amazing “Kapoor and Sons”directed by the same person.
It too dealt with complexities in relationships and yet made them believable, and made us take so many sensitive issues with much grace and understanding home after watching it.
It was inspiring. Real.
Gehraiyaan on the other hand seems like a desperate attempt to please the current generation while being conveniently ignorant about how there’s so much more real things in today’s generation than to just blindly surrender to infidelity and crime. A poor attempt to glorify all the bad that could have been handled with so much more sensitivity.
It was just a painful watch.
I think we as audience have been underestimated so much, we definitely deserve much better.
