Compelling visuals and signature wachowski audacity carry the day through a minefield of wooden acting and underdeveloped plot. The magnitude of the backdrop begged for a trilogy treatment: chapter one the shadowy revelation of alien powers; chapter 2 the initial advances and massive setback; chapter 3 the convergence of larger powers, big gamble, win, and initial exploration of the aftermath. The backdrop is at least as big as The Matrix, and deserved as much exploration. This would also have allowed much needed development of the three siblings, all of whom, as a result, felt very unrealized, devolving into stereotype.
