7.75 of 10 for the genre: (NO SPOILER) If Dead to Me Has a theme it's this: Things could always be worse. --- Two middle-aged women (wearing it well, naturally) are going through tough times and when cornered beyond return, do some pretty bad things. Life was fairly normal, but their new-normal is a lot like 'No need to go to Hell for the bad things, because it's happy to come to us'. Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini make a surprising good team as actors, but their characters have a knack for melding comedy and tragedy in a way that makes me wonder if they have an downward spiral at Disneyland. 10 of 10 for the genre: While the subject may seem dry and plodding to the uneducated, those with a passion for history and education will find this movie wanting for nothing. And while there are some who may hold various grudges against it's two main actors, it cannot be denied that they and the surrounding cast have paired undeniable talents to create an historical account within a story told better than, for example, The Imitation Game, among others within this genre. --- I've gone so far as to give this a 10 not only for the acting, the scenery, and the successful coverage of a potentially boring subject (depending on the script and direction), but because there are no unneeded scenes. There are no 'that would never happen moments' which is hard to find in a movie, period. In fact, this movie's only downfall may be that one is sorry that it's over. Mel, Sean and company will intrigue the mind and tug at your humanity, right there before your eyes. Enjoy!

8.1 of 10 for the genre: Like Red, the first installment, we are taken on a Mission Impossible or James Bond-like adventure, that for the most part may not be very realistic, but seems far more entertaining with it's leveity infused script. This is one of those multi-buddy movies where there is no current big-time star, but it is done so well with a cast that so gels, I hope they do one more, I don't care if they're all octogenarians when it comes out. --- Unlike a full-on serious crime-thriller, you're never left wondering if the end it worth the setup and dry delivery. Everyone's gifts come to bear in the delivery of lines, and the situations are just fun. It's not a Schwarzenegger mud pie where half the movie is based on one-liners. The movie can't really be given higher rating because humor is at it's best in realistic situations... but I can nearly guarantee, you will enjoy!

8.2 of 10 for the genre: Clint Eastwood gives one of his best performances, where values that are close to him are clearly displayed within context of the story, and these feelings drive him. The story is solid and displays family issues involved with their causes in realistic fashion. Within the few aspects where the realism comes into question are the only real drawbacks, but the story is moving and hits it's mark. --- for example: (small reveals here) 1) I doubt Mexican cartel ranks include anyone with a heart. 2) Mexican cartels would be idiots to hire those of a certain age; set in their ways, lacking respect, health problems imminent. But then, they are stupid enough to be the evil they are. IDK. 3) His first encounter with the law seems unlikely in it's conclusion the way it goes down. --- In the end, these details are somewhat minor, and I could even be wrong. I enjoyed the movie. Decent pace, realistic in it's conception. The supporting cast is well picked. Eastwood is a National Treasure. Enjoy!

4.15 of 10 for the genre: While this is probably a fairly decent epic in 1935, of course, you will have to compensate being the modern yet understanding person that you are... Rife with mediocre to terrible acting by today's standards, Pompeii is a story that can only be a loose interpretation of a city made famous for being buried alive via pyroclastic calamity. Volcano! --- A subplot involves the highly persecuted Christians of the day. --- I can't say it's particularly fun, however, seeing how they handle scenery and special effects for an early Hollywood epic has some educational value concerning movie making when 'talkies' were still less than a decade in existence. That it's in black and white, no doubt, helps to 'sell' it. Enjoy!

7 of 10 for the genre: In case you forgot cars can go fast or that weapons rip bodies to shreds, this movie will fix you right up. As the characters move through intense moments and pauses alike, we are reminded fowl as well as funny things can come out of mouths. Fortunately, the dialogue is said with scripted words we can understand, in our own language. Great work by Ryan Reynolds and the balance of this production crew.

10 of 10 for the genre: So, now you're supposed to get excited about American politics? Yeah, actually. At the very least, this is television at it's finest. Writer/Creator Aaron Sorkin shows the world how to write television in this one. TV should be entertaining, witty, informative... and whatever else it should be is right here, bolstered by superb cast and feature quality music score. Martin Sheen is the president of the United States everyone wishes they had, even if they are from another country. He's surrounded by a staff that, when not tripped up by it's own brilliance, actually seeks to better the world on a daily basis, despite all odds. And the odds throw no less than 3 to 4 curves at them every week. What moves me, between laughs, insight and clever story, is Sorkin reminds us that we are all fragile, but we are also strong, and that humility and strength play an important role in how we effect the world around us.
