I was highly anticipated Ready Player two after thoroughly enjoying RP1.
What I liked:
Familiar world build layout
More character development
More 80s and various time period references
Awesome visual explanation
Fun and easy read
Very action packed ending
Emotional
More fun pop culture history facts
Disliked:
It’s not as great as the first book (shocker I know lol)
It could've used more distinctive writing to make it not feel like the same thing as RP1.
Some clunky writing
Common Sci Fi tropes
I would honestly give this book a 3.5 or 4 if you like the series. I’d give it a 1 star if you are politically charged lol. I personally don’t care about a writer putting their views in their book. If they can incorporate it seamless then it’s fine. Cline made it clunky at points BUT it wasn't completely out of line with the issue at hand in the story. With futuristic dilemmas, such as VR and AR evolution, brings more issues of ethical dilemmas and cultural norms, etc. Some 1 star criticism I see feel very intolerant to any LGBTQ narritve but whatever. Past that, the plot was a little bit of a rehashing from RP1. You could almost call this Ready Player One 1.5. I think Ready Player 1 could've incorporated this plot and make it one huge book. The concept still made it about a competition about finding easter eggs in futuristic augmented reality. What I loved most was the end! The end was worth the slow start. It was very action packed and fulfilling. It is a slow start, I personally didn't mind it, but it could've been slimmed down. Even though the common futuristic Sci Fi tropes were there, I think they were handled well enough to make it unique. Listen there's nothing new under the sun. Cline did well and I definitely liked the turn it made at the end.
