Fair play to them for having a crack at the near worn-out "Zombie Horror" whip. They did a decent job of combining elements of 28 Days later, The Walking Dead, and maybe even a hint of The Last of Us.
My only real gripe so far (seen the first 3 episodes) has been the laughably inaccurate portrayal of the US Army. From a total lack of equipment to upside-down rank insignia, there's not much they do get right here.
It's pretty clear from the outset that they're working with a tight budget but that's not to say the show is any worse for it. This cast of mostly unknown actors impressed me. They're not overly melodramatic and their reactions and behaviour are more down-to-earth and believable than in TWD.
I also prefer the speedy rage demon style "infected" (think 28DL) to the slow and sedated zombies of TWD.
All in all, I'm more than happy to spend my time watching the rest of this season. Maybe they'll have a bigger budget for the next one, eh?
