L-U-V this little noir/camp gem. It starts out with a haunting theme song as Doris tries to run away from her new husband. Then, there are some truly bad process shots of DD driving a car with a monster steering wheel in the days before power steering. Then, she's furiously packing to get away - in a pencil skirt and stiletto heels! (GET OUT OF THE HOUSE DORIS!).
This little film looks like it was made on the cheap, which actually works in its favor. Great location shots of Carmel-by-the-Sea - where Doris eventually moved - add some level of realism.
It would be easy to say that it's so bad that it's good, but it's a pretty tense, dark film. Handsome, usually charming Louis Jordan is cast against type as the psycho husband. Doris is wonderful as always and you'll never believe what she does at the end - or maybe you will!
Here's hoping for an HD remaster!
