It is a shame there wasn't a fuller commitment to portray the unique talents of Marcel Marceau. Some of this is the script. Jesse Eisenberg has an awkward charm, a believable accent and youthful presence, and bankable chemistry with Emma; however, he didn't possess Marceau's deep humanity or skill when he mimed -especially vital at the ending of the film. I was hoping to see a star turn like Johnny Depp as Buster Keaton or Robert Downey Jr as Charlie Chaplin. After all, Marceau is a man that spent most of his adult life not speaking but instead emoting! I wanted to see how that ability and gravitas evolved more. I do applaud the writer and director for bringing awareness to Marcel Mangel's heroic background and sharing how Jewish children were saved.
