I agree with many other posters that the world the show is set in on the surface is confusing..
Is it late 70's/early 80's - Nope seems to be modern day, with the use of smartphones and laptop's etc.
Surely it's set in the US - Nope, Apparently it's England (Although it's only really the school and the New England style house that Otis lives in that implies USA).
Hopefully I'm not thinking to deeply here, but I enjoy the generic setting. The issues that the show portray's are world wide surely ?, and having it set in a location/time neutral setting helps it deliver in that way.
I'm getting on for 50 yr's old, and didn't think I would enjoy this - But as others have pointed out, at times it's a hark back to John Hughes films, and I find the the varying plot-lines and performances compelling.. 9/10
