I have never watched love island before because I thought it was trash TV, but if i'm honest I was surprised. Obviously the reviewers below find that its not their cup of tea which is fair but no-one is forcing it down their throat either. When you are watching reality TV you already know the formula of how they work.
The relationships that are formed in this artificial environment usually take months in the real world and its precisely because of this the relationships you see can become very deep where islanders can become blind to each other's flaws. The introduction of new islanders show how men and women can have their heads turned and how our desires can sometimes control us. As an outside observer you can begin to understand why in the real world people can cheat and why others can go through the rocks and still survive.
I can honestly say that I can relate to certain peaks and troughs of the relationships that are shown and have learned more about the way each gender thinks and how best to handle these scenarios should these ever happen to me.
One scene in particular I found that I could relate to was when Amy was devastated by Curtis' change of feelings. Its a terrible feeling that I am sure everyone has felt at one point and can relate to but on the other hand you can see how Curtis would later feel trapped in the relationship; much like when people find themselves later in life "stuck" with their partner due to financial reasons unable to have an amicable divorce.
Overall it's a really good show that highlights the natural human emotions and needs; you can't help but support the islanders courage to go on national TV and allow the world to see them for who they are, and is some way who we are as individuals.
