I was extremely excited to watch this series since the trailer was out, but after watching it I must say that I'm hugely disappointed. This series is not up to the standard of other NetFlix productions like Sacred Games or Ghoul.
If you are a horror fan, then you must have read creepypasta, and one of the most famous creepypasta stories is the one where a little girl tells her grandpa that there is a monster under her bed. And when grandpa checks under the bed, he finds the same little girl sitting there scared, and she tells her grandpa that the girl sitting on the bed is the real monster. Everyone on CP and their mom knows this story. Netflix's Typewriter is the extended version of that same story. What they did is copied some popular stories from online horror forums, add a dash of Netflix's other insanely hit series like 'Stranger Things' and 'The haunting of the Hill House' and sprinkled some desi drama to appeal to the Indian audience. But predictably, this experiment fell flat and the series turned out to be a major disappointment.
At least in Stranger Things, the children gang was adorable, Unlike Typewriter where the children gang is irritating, especially Sam. The story is full of loopholes and some sub-plots have been added for no reason at all, for example, the storyline of Peter Fernandes, Jenny's husband's affair. It doesn't add anything to the story apart from making the episode lengthy. Moreover, the plot was never given a proper ending, so we don't know about their end (or beginning so to speak).
Then there is bad casting. Purab Kohli is a decent actor and obviously good looking. But he is nowhere capable of carrying the responsibility of being the hero. And I could live with this, but what about Jisshu Sengupta as the main antagonist. Are you kidding me? The series was bound to be doomed the moment they chose Jisshu.
And the people who are calling it one of the scariest Netflix series, I'm sure you guys were the one to get scared watching alif laila on TV. Please raise your standards.
