Adam Driver's performance made this movie bearable. The supporting actors, Finn, Poe, and all the previous Star Wars cast, made Rey's character come to light. Rey's casting was a poor choice and I am glad the writers and director decided to give her small lines and incorporate actions in her scenes. Rey had a lack of charisma I wanted a Jedi to have. The female lead in Rogue One would have made a better fit. The only scene Rey's character was likeable was when she fought her evil self. The movie have two themes: rise of skywalker and acceptance.
Kylo plays a Jedi who finally accepts who he is and acknowledges he has been used to get to Rey. He ends up being the Jedi who we put all our hope in to saving the rebellion and instead of taking the glory of taking down Palpatine, he sacrifice himself to save Rey without any of the rebellion knowing his name or knowing the legacy of his sacrifice he has done at the end. All the evil Kylo did in the movie was Palpatine influence and only to get to Rey because he grasp onto her character to help him accept Jedi power as a source of good and not a bringer of evil as he grew up to believe when Luke tried to kill him (Palpatine's general did all the innocent killing. Kylo always went to find Rey or his parents himself. The rage of killing all the Jedi was because he was unable to contri his power). So why did Disney not make the rise of Skywalker about Kylo? Did Disney think the audience would not accept an evil person as a hero? Kylo's character accepted who he is, sacrificed himself for the good of the universe and well beings of others, fought to take Palpatine down. Kylo had characteristics of a Jedi, assertive, decisive, confident, and a fighter.
Rey ends up not accepting her Sith lineage, Palpatine's granddaughter, and becomes an imposter of the Skywalker name. How amazing & shocking would the movie have been is Rey became an Sith overlord and Kylo turned good in order to bring her Sith power down? As dark as this story would be, this darkness would have been a better story. Instead, Disney left us a hero who is selfish into only finding out about her past and who she is (not saving the rebellion). Why? How can this movie have a message about acceptance if Rey cannot embrace her family's name ? The audience would connected more if the movie portrayed acceptance of good and bad parts of an individual.
Lastly. I have questions. How come Rey did not get the Sith power when she killed Palpatine (that explanation covered like 30 mins of the movie)? Why did Leia's lightsaber start green (from the scene with Luke) to blue (when passed on to Rey and she uses to fight Palpatine)? When and how did Rey get a yellow lightsaber? Why did Rey flick the switch for a lightsaber instead of using her force at the end? Why does Finn have Jedi powers/the force? Why introduce Poe's background without elaborating? What did Finn want to say to Rey??? Why was this movie lacking lightsaber one-on-one fight scenes?!?!?!?! I am truly disappointed.
