It is impossible to capture on live action film the nuances of Daniel Clowes and the subtle comic character drawings which are at the heart of his forlorn comedy. But other than that it is well cast, the direction is a bit flat even though the tone of the movie plays as a sarcastic melodrama. Also the cinematography and lighting and the set/costume colours used could have been more thought out. Clowes really captured the caged absurdity of the suburban lifestyle especially visually and I think the film doesn’t capture this as well as the comics.
