I haven't read a book (other than for school purposes) in probably about seven years. Which is ridiculous, I know. I tried to read, but nothing was really grabbing me. Within the first chapter of this book, I was hooked. The writing style and quality are incredible. The way the story is layed out, is one thing that made this book a realistic slice of life. Very gradual but significant character development and the gradual introduction of detail makes the story seem like you are living in it. Although seemingly slow from that description, the story is farm from. There is no filler sections, and the chapters are never too long either. Another thing that I enjoyed was the books unexpected humor. The story itself is actually quite depressing given Jareds situation, yet it holds its humor. There were definitely more than a few times I let out an audible laugh. On top of all that, the addition of the first nation theme is a unique twist that, for me, really made this book. My mother, her co-worker, and I have all read and loved this book. I would recommend it to anyone under the sun who can read. I am very excited to start the next of this series, and I cannot thank Eden Robinson enough for sparking my interest in reading again!
