This is why ordinary people hate art films.
8 1/2, Close Up, Solaris are my favourite films, and Tarkovsky and Ozu are among my favourite directors, the film dedicates itself to them in the end and calls them angels.
Now why I am talking about this, because people will merely scruff off any complaint you have about this film because you aren't high IQ or cultured.
The film makes no effort to be present itself in an engaging way at all. It is the most boring film possibly ever to achieve this level of praise. It isn't just "slow" there is basically no characters for very large part of the film.
It's really a case of the emperors new clothes. And I can see why it's in black & white, it has an angel (automatic religious symbolism) the story definitely sounds poetic and cool on the surface. These are the types of tropes we associate with art films.
I dare say that it is and I know who is reading this probably hates this word, PRETENTIOUS.
