Unfortunately they must have hired some writers from GOT because not only were they all over the place but they picked a horrendous ending for the show. Full of tropes and stereotypical "shonen" level stuff(full review below)
Apparently the kid complaining about homosexual relationships in the show didn't really watch the show. They have more than one, and it is not confined to the last two seasons. Zethrid and Ezor, both female and in love show up fairly regularly through the series from about season 3 or 4. Around season 5 you actually first learn about the one she mentioned, which is Shiro's relationship. You find he left a boyfriend behind on earth well before the last 2 seasons. Hooray for diversity(not sarcastic)! They did the same thing with She-Ra, and probably plan it for He-Man as well(he has been a rainbow pride target for ages, though Kevin Smith is in charge and not the rainbow folks so we'll see). I really dislike it when people bash shows because of religion. I mean a character in this show has a name that is pronounced(spelled different) identically to the holy book of a religion and none of them seem to have complained about that character being a foolish stooge who exists for comic relief about 90% of the time(this one is a stab at the fools who criticized Umbrella Academy).
This is a typical adaptation from what was originally a "shonen jump" level of show, so do not expect great writing. Lots of tropes, characters who grow in one episode just to revert for several. Two of the main characters, who you are supposed to relate to and appreciate, are just about the worst kind of idiots they could possibly be. I seriously wanted to smack the stupid out of them so many times I almost dropped the show in frustration. They don't grow up til the series is almost over making it hard to care about those characters. The transformation sequences are all over the place, ranging to over a full minute in length(probably for filler). The flashbacks are horribly timed. Stuff that you should learn near the beginning of the show is delayed to halfway or almost the end which detracts majorly from the arcs they got stuck in. It was awesome how they tied the original voltron show into this one(as a kids show about the paladins). Unfortunately they must have hired some writers from GOT because not only were they all over the place but they picked a horrendous ending for the show.
The ending they picked seems to have been included as some kind of nod at religion instead of trying to give any truly moral or happy conclusion to the story. The worst, most evil and wicked, character in the show gets redemption with no punishment fixing some of what she broke doesn't really qualify as atonement. Only religion says that such a horrid existence deserves to get away with all that evil so long as they are truly sorry at the end. Even Zarkon suffers at Allura's hands when he is made to relieve the suffering he caused. Honerva just gets away with it. What a garbage ending. A by far preferrable alternative would have seen the Sages of Oriande, the "Lifegivers" as the guardians of the source, while what was on Oriande was just statues. They could then have punished Honerva and fixed things. It would have been simple to lead up to that if they had the flashbacks where they belonged and didn't add so much filler garbage to the rest of it. I read no reviews before starting the show, so for a while after the sages were introduced I figured that was exactly how it would end- what a disappointment.
