Absolutely had to write a review. The movie is, at literally every second of the film, derailing itself with constant horrible directing decisions. The scenes are very basic and boring, the soundtrack is okay but that's only cause it's Alex G, the actors have absolutely no clue what they're doing and I hope they don't want careers because this will NOT get them anything else. Looking into it (you have to the movie gives you not a spec of story) supposedly the creator wanted it to be a gender dysmorphic, internet addicted, depressed teen but at no point do they show any of that. They constantly pull the "oh oh oh almost haha you almost saw this" cars which is so boring, and when things do happen it's literally for no reason. There is no story. There's barely any real conflict. The MC does everything to herself and chooses to delve into something that she knows nothing about. Which by the way, if you do a challenge or something, I feel like you'd look it up or watch videos afterwards. That does NOT forshadow anything about Internet addiction or loneliness. It barely shows her struggle with people so it seems like she's not trying to fix anything, we see her in town with people so it's not impossible. What this movie is really about is a psychotic teen that gets groomed by an old man, the teen goes to get help and the man continues to groom her after she continues to show mental deterioration. That's it as blunt as it gets, whatever the creator SAYS this is, they are absolutely wrong because that is not the product. I legitimately thought I watched the wrong movie after seeing what they said about it's message. Final part is I cannot stand the disgusting transitions, much of this movie is dead silent with you just staring at something. Never scary or unsettling it's just stupid, please watch Midsommar or the original Candy Man or something instead please.
