Please be so kind as to ignore Carlos's post on some of his points. His statement, "Says a lot when the writer, screenwriters, producers, most of the cast, etc are not Mexican and pretend to speak Spanish, Mixteca, Zapotec, etc." is not true IF my research is correct. Most of the cast is Mexican or 1/2 Mexican etc.
He is correct that there are several plants and organizations that enslave in a similar way. Yet when reading what I suspect is his Variety website review, he seems to be caught up in the feeling that something is not genuine enough in language, the amount of English spoken in the setting, etc. That is a moot point, as the goal is to convey a story to white guys like me. Given his premise, any film about the atrocities of WW@ would have to be inaccurate German. Sorry Carlos, it worked for me.
Now, as to the movie... it is not for the faint of heart but addresses a real and relatively unknown issue, just like Sound of Freedom.
This movie is harsh, violent, and confrontational in its approach. But it is also realistic in what evil is going on right here in our world.
This is not entertainment but a film designed and executed to create a conviction against human trafficking.
You can call BS on me, but I have 2 friends I love who have lived this story, but it was not the horrors of sweatshops but as young kids in the sex trade.
This is real. Critics say that this movie is too much. No, it is not if you really know someone who has lived it.
