The move plot unfolds in outer-space and exploration but it’s really about ‘spaces’; about looking for something numinous when it’s been in front of you the entire time; love, family, etc. More specifically the spaces we can leave in the lives of those who love us and the spaces we create in our absence.
I always take a very existential view of movies as I know there is always more to meets the eye. There always seems to be a meta-narrative behind a story’s complex characters and scenes. The theme of space exploration lends itself in the most interesting and unusual way. At the end I was satisfied I saw this film just as the protagonist was.
