I found The Leunig Fragments to be a brilliant piece of film-making, but could feel the frustrations of the director Kasimir Burgess, or imagine what they must be, since Leunig was so maddeningly elusive so often during the film. However, I do not agree with some critics who have said we learn very little about him. Even from his silences and evasions, we learn quite a lot - and after all he has bared his soul for years, in a constant stream of cartoons and other artworks. If he won't or can't reveal more in words, we can still admire his work as a manifestation of a remarkable talent and 'soul', however troubled he may be. Those troubles are surely closely connected with his great talent.
