In watching it for the 1st time I felt it was fairly realistic based on the time it was filmed. It reflected the frustration of the Algerian people for their inability to throw off the yoke of French “colonialism”, which the French were so good at including in Indochina. The French held control over Algeria for 130 years!
It took far too long for the Algerians to secure their freedom from the French.
