Burl Ives He came to Australia and after contacting Aussie musicologists, revived these songs which had been forgotten, and now have been reforgotten! I meet kids now who don’t know Botany Bay or Click go the Shears, Wild Colonial Boy, Bold Jack Donahue, and many others. They know our 2nd best cricketer Shane W, but not Don B! ( Whose grandaughter Greta is a great soprano, the Don played a good piano himself. ) Relearn your heritage, and if foreigners ask for an Aussie song give ‘em Springtime it brings on the Shearing.

Lots of cigarette and cigar smoke. The actors have a wonderful time, and I think the writers must have also. History and the film may have some congruency but not enough. Churchill is a challenge, great, quaint, multi talented, verging on if not actually bipolar, etc etc. The Darkest Hour is a far better film though it too has its weaknesses / defects.

Based on a novel, the storyline has faults and the characters are stereotypical. The last spoken word is “madness”referring perhaps to warfare in general. If we all know that why do we continue to wage it? I am with the critics rather than the enthusiasts. But parts of it are excellent and it is worth a rewatch occasionally.
