The commander of the fortress asks to speak to his son, a young teenager, and asks him if he remembers their talks about a soldier's responsibilities, of honor, and dignity. The son replies he does remember the discussions. The father then tells his son to prepare to die like a man, the fortress will not be surrendered. This is only one of numerous short stories, forgotten to history, that show the soldier's creed that the mission comes first, and the men that stood to the last cartridge. A hell of a moving book.
