If you like manipulative characters, small town gossip, codependent relationships, plot twists that give you whiplash, lazy writing, all wrapped up with gorgeous scenery and attractive actors with a soap opera finish, this series is for you.

5 stars for seasons 1 and 2 but only one for the 3rd one, worst ever. Trying to be 21st century relevant but constrained by past realities. Jerking us around with Anne and Gilbert. Taking total flight from the books. A frustrating and disappointing season to watch.

I was left wondering if it was a thinly veiled commentary on the present political situation. "The cover is not the book. The king may be a crook." Meryl Streep plays a cousin of Mary's who has a Russian accent, whose world turns "turtle" every 2nd Wednesday. "When the world is getting scary, be your own luminary." "There's nowhere to go but up." I found the music and acting enjoyable. The piece "A Conversation" brought tears to my eyes, reminiscent of David Tomlinson and his singing style. If one doesn't worship the original and you're ready for something new, you'll enjoy this old but new jolly holiday with Mary Poppins.
