Excalibur has so many layers to it and is incredibly rich in psychological and metaphysical symbolism. On the surface it’s the story of King Arthur but between the lines it’s an allegory - the power of the dragon within each of us, fate, darkness and light, the perils of identifying with the external rather than pursuing an inner path. It’s one of my favourite films.
