Beautifully filmed in black and white, two women rekindle a friendship after many years of not seeing each other. The one character Clare is 'passing' as white and is married to a racist which I found particularly galling. Her friend is Reenie who is also black but with paler skin but not as pale as Clare. Reenie lives her life with her husband and two sons in Harlem and enjoys the culture and social life of their community. Her husband is a Doctor and exhausted but a kind and caring man who is educating his sons o the challenges of being black in America and talks if leaving America. After ignoring Clare's letters Reenie eventually lets Clare into their lives as she is home alone often as her husband works away and they have recently moved to New York from Chicago. Clare embraces the lifestyle in Harlem and appears to be having quite an impact. Reenie is becoming more insecure and asks Clare what she would do if her husband John found out she was black, she replied move here. This was after Reenie bumped into John whilst she was with a black friend and Reenie was afraid. I won't give away the ending. A great film for people who can concentrate and appreciate the subtleties of a plot and the depth of characters then this is a great portrayal of life in the late 20's in America and race relations. Fabulous music too.

Had high hopes and thought it was veering towards quality of season 1. However when I finished watching episode 5 I thought I must have missed something and it couldn't be the end of the season but it was and I'm none the wiser!

Interesting to make a film of such an intricate complex novel. Good casting has saved it but it's hard to capture the impact of the book.

Genius in its ordinariness, deep in its human relatedness connections, powerful and evocative. So considered, artistry, understanding, impact, human. I'll be thinking about this for a long time.

I was totally captivated, hook, line and sinker for this stunning production. How Emily Blunt hasn't received more recognition for her role is beyond me. The story develops and builds keeping your curiosity and interest. The history of the war, the land being carved up, with the prospect of fortunes, the lawlessness, the Indians been made 'American' and of course The English.... The cinematography shows the majestic beauty of the state of Wyoming in particular. Stellar writing, filming, acting.
