Let's start off with background data: 47 year old white male living in Cleveland Ohio who spent nearly every Saturday night in the last 80's early 90's watching TNG.
Let's start off with the negatives of the show. I always felt that Gene Roddenberry wanted Star Trek to be a show that 8-10 year olds could watch without getting nightmares. Picard is a bit graphic. People getting their head sliced off wasn't necessary. (Spoiler Alert). Killing off Picard and then immediately bringing him back wasn't necessary either. The show can have staying power without Patrick Stewart, but they won't know if that is the case unless they leave Jean Luc be dead.
That being said this has been the best part of the Star Trek universe since TNG. Star Trek was suppose to be a character, science, storyline driven series. All recent incarnations of the Star Trek universe have been strictly driven by action. I loved the moral dilemmas and ambiguity of the storyline that wasn't resolved until the very end, and was very character driven.
