Well, what could be the best show than Masterchef Australia?
Season 12 started quite refreshingly with new judges. It was getting very interesting with the creativity of the challenges taken to the top-notch.
However, as we headed closer to Top 10 ... it became the cliche Poh still being there and putting up the drama during every cook, Laura clearly being Jock's & Mel's favourite, Emelia is the luckiest pastry kitchen wonder in the group. Can you imagine? Poh served incomplete dish twice and one was uncooked as well. Yet she survived to be Top 6, it’s the worst of all mishaps.
Reece was sent out shamefully which was unfair. His dishes have always been so refined and fine dining level, though cannot be no. 1, but deserves better position.
As we headed to Top 5 & 4 it was certain from the judges’ comments that if given item is same with just the label (name) been different, who would have received much appreciation and who would not. Andy was struggling to be neutral but had to get along with Mel & Jock.
Top 3 was a clear strategy to send out Callum Hann despite the true creativity, usage of unusual flavours taken to the next level and great presentation. There was nothing to find fault, yet others tasted better. What best way to be sent out, if only it were true? Judges emotions were clearly visible pixel by pixel.
It was worse for Reynold. Hit him exactly on the weak spot of recreation. Everybody has weak spots, but Laura & Emelia been strategically given life over and over to make a win.
What is needed for a great chef? (1) Great taste buds (2) Creativity & originality (3) Organized (4) Team spirit & leadership (5) Calculated risk taking.
Callum fits the bill perfectly followed by Renold. Laura - has great taste buds next to Callum. She knows the flavour but has serious lack of creativity and rest of the attributes. Despite her shortcomings, she attempted few varieties.
Callum was repeatedly called strategist, but the ultimate strategists were Poh, Laura & Emelia. They played their emotional card at every chance to score in front of the judges. Surprisingly, the judges feel for only these trio. Callum possess such a great sense of fair play & deserves to be the judge in such programs.
On the other hand, Emelia is so boring with flavours and specialises in pastry. She is definitely good in following recipes. She is Australia's Masterchef 2020 Season 12? Its a shame.
The Top 3 deserving all round chefs are Callum, Renold & Simon respectively. Renold's theme based creations are out of the world. Others like Khanh, Tessa & Sara Tiong are those who are not strong in sweet section. But they have rest of attributes.
Ultimately the baker is the winner of Masterchef Australia Season 12 reflects the low quality of the judges. Jock & Mel deserve to be out.
