It’s a shame Burton changed so much of the original beloved storyline. He didn’t need to and major missed opportunity. Of course a lot needs to be added & enhanced for longer, live-action movie, but many major things were removed or just not represented in any great way. First, Dumbos best friend and major character, the mouse. Second, the iconic Pink Elephants on Parade incredibly was such a visual, trippy sequence and in this version is done with just a few air bubbles, and with no accidental intoxication, only safe. Third, the gossipy other female elephants who played major part in original, even naming him. Fourth, the storks, which also had big part and great intro. Then, the soulful, wise-cracking crows, who were actually the ones to get Dumbo the iconic feather to think he needs to fly. There are definitely ways to do those characters even in today’s sensitive divisive climate. Strangely, the original from 78 yrs ago feels more progressive & rule-breaking.
