Rachel Pedeaux

I am definitely a fan of Melanie Martinez and respect her work ethic and never ending creativity. K-12 was fun and visually stunning in many ways but also incredibly chaotic and contrived at times. The emphasis on the fact it was a feature film made me focus on the storyline but it was almost impossible. There were so many ideas collaged together it just was overwhelming and chaotic. She tried to fit so many statements and sub plots in one story that there was no way to wrap your mind around a singular one wholesomely so you just felt unsatisfied. Also, there were so many political statements that were imposed in scenes that it just felt fake and like I was being preached to. The messages didn’t flow from the story, they just felt hammered in there to prove a point. It was glorious imagery and artistry to accompany her music, very entertaining, but it is not a good story.
