If you want to love the show, do NOT read the book first. The book wildly outshines the show both in character and plot development. For example, I loved Ed in the book- found him to be a beautifully grounded and clear character. In the show, hes a whiney, bratty wahwahwah me me me. Same with Madeline. Disappointed.
