It sucked. But I’ve never been a fan of David Yates’ directorial style so I’m definitely biased. He’s always preferred pretty imagery over meaningful content.
The pacing is unbearably erratic and the characters are all extremely flat. Things just keep happening, and the audience isn’t given a chance to feel a real connection to any of it. It’s just two dull hours of various plot threads drifting alongside one another, and they only barely come together by the end. Also a lot of the ties between characters feel ridiculously forced. The only bright side to it all was getting to see Jude Law as Dumbledore. Perfect choice, but not enough to save the film. I’ll always be loyal to the HP universe, but this story is just getting to be too contrived. It continues to feel like a set-up to something that won’t even be satisfying. So sad.
