Finally, I've already read this book in 2 weeks and I have something to say about that. Well, I liked this book. Alas I'm not familliar with the literary work of Maureen Johnson, this is the first book of her authorship I've read. But, first of all this book is about my beloved Disney's villain character - Cruella De Vil.
SPOILERS! ALERT!
The story of this book takes place in between the events of the recently released origin about Cruella. According to the plot the main character is 16 years old. And everything that happens to her in the course of the story reminded me Dickens's "Oliver Twist". But, OMG, there're so many descriptions about Estella's creations, about processes of her sewing projects, I really loved it.
Have this novel the happy end? I don't think so. The heroine throughout the whole story finds new friends (but in process of reading you'll start to understand that "friends" with rottennes), and theese friends're from the highest, almost secular circle, she becomes (to some extent) equal to them, she has a boyfriend for the first time, but in the end the girl in fact remains at the broken trough.
At some points I wanted to become a minor character in that story and help her, support her.
Cruella in that story is a shadow of Estella, or her alter-ego. In the course of the story it tries to break out. And Estella's trying to shut her out. She talks with her, with herself.
It's very hard to imagine, that such a girl in the future will become a psicho, eager to sew a furcoat from Dalmatians. This is another Cruella, but I liked her.
Well. The book is very interesting, fascinating and written in quite simple language. I really liked it and recommend it for all Cruella's fans.
