Definitely a must watch! If you want to understand a piece of the everyday horrors that the black community experiences, then watch this! Being a black woman, I can relate to so much of the anger and frustration that this family goes through. Even though this takes place in the past, it has so much relevancy in today’s world as well- unfortunately not much has changed. Such a great piece if artistry. It’s a shame that this has to be the story, but I’m glad the writers and producers were able to tell his/her stories to share with the world.
It captures our inner demons and the impact it has on a persons mental health. It exposes the hatred against black people and the cycle of perpetual ignorance for generations. It teaches the rest of the world how people of color can crack and can seemingly become monsters all while maintaining resiliency and a strong will. This tells a side of the story that isn’t told enough. It’s a horror show because this is the literal life that black Americans live everyday, we can’t escape this nightmare. It will only take more shows like this to force people to open their eyes to see what America we actually live in!
When you watch this show, it isn’t a matter of whether you enjoyed it or not, rather ask yourself, do you understand it or not? If you don’t understand it, you probably won’t like it. But if you do, then I hope it will open your mind to have some empathy and compassion to want to change this world for the better.
