I'm an old fan of the book series and the old Robert Urich series. This take didn't suck, but it could have been any ex-con turned detective story in the genre. Spenser is missing his erudite spirit. Hawk is missing his smooth wit and style. Susan Silverman is missing altogether, replaced by a brassy, irritating character out of central casting. As a vehicle for the "Spencer" legacy, it was an ocean of violence without the depth to get your feet wet.
