Being a fan of The Classic Sonic games, this movie is such a joy to watch. Ben Swartz’s depiction of sonic actually has more characterisation & charm than the video games’ version of Sonic. Jim Carrey is freaking brilliant as Dr Robotnik and I love how he has an obvious yet mysterious backstory. Perfect. The way the movie mixtures the weirdness of Sonic, like Green Hills, Rings— into real life for the movie is great. I genuinely do see this as a great origin story for Sonic. It’s just a fun & entertaining movie which is genuinely good & a joy to watch if you’re already a fan of the source material. Yes it’s not entirely accurate but. This movie is clearly a loose adaptation of the first sonic game. Hoping the sequel does more of the same, introducing more characters from the games. Hoping the sequel is more accurate to the source material & a much darker story. But not on the verge of that Shadow game. Can’t wait for the sequel.
