the two main characters are hard to believe as a couple. I kinda was rooting for them to break up and stay broken up, I found them annoying but I kept watching the show to say I watched it. Donald Glover isn’t a believable Mr Smith and the entire show felt pretty forgettable. This show also fails as a “comedy”, majority of the jokes fell flat. I also really just don’t find either main characters to be believable spies.

It is incredible how pisspoor of a story writer Tyler Perry is. It’s amazing that his ego makes him so proud of not receiving help from real and seasoned writers (who likely went to school for cinema). Not only is this movie NOT funny, it drags… every scene with Madea is drawn out. His portrayal of black families makes us look completely ignorant. Just putting things frankly, this movie was hard to sit through. Every scene was unnecessarily drawn out and his attempts at creating drama? Are really sad. There’s no build up, things don’t really make sense but if they make sense in Tyler’s mind, he will make a million dollars off of it. The only thing Tyler is talented at is putting black people together on screen and monetizing off of it. He’s not telling groundbreaking or even INTERESTING stories. You can tell he’s never gone to school for this because he can’t even put together a cohesive plot. I feel bad for people who think this is good media to consume. Sorry y’all but I do. It’s trash.

I hate to be the person who points out the stark differences between the book and screenplay but the differences are glaringly layered in an easily digestible sugar glaze that just misses the mark. It withers the complexity of the characters down to minute snapshots with no true substance. It takes Sara (the mother) and turns her from a selfish mother who's main concern is the well-being of her sick child into a semi-abusive erratic and emotional mother. She would never hit her kids or curse at them. She was cold but never abusive. The only similarly between the book and the screenplay is the main character names and they clearly took chunks of text out of the book to fit in the movie but that's it. It takes away the substance of the book, if you ask me. Write a new screenplay or do it page for page. Don't make a knock off copy.
