This was a terrible movie. Tracie Ellisons Ross was probably happy her character got kill off early so she would have suffer through this terrible story. It tried to be a comedy and drama and it did neither one well. If it would have concentrated on being drama about Monk’s relationship with his mother and her deteriorating mental health, his strained relationship with his brother and his new relationship with his new girlfriend. Or a straight comedy, which what I thought it was going to be, about an author who criticize black authors like Issa Rayes characters who write stereotypical books about black people for white audiences. He ends you writing the same type of book he despise writing and comedy ensues.

I gave this 2 stars for cast only, they did the best they could with this lousy story. This movie was terrible. It was ghettofied retailing of Frankensteins Monster with a young woman playing the role of Frankenstein. The young women who mother and brother died was tired of death and wanted to cure it. So in an abandon factory she cobbles together some body parts including the head of her dead bother. She re-animates the dead body by charging it. And apparently the Frankenstein monster name Chris goes on a killing because his victims called him a monster. The movie had the usual themes like drugs , single mothers, drug dealers, thugs and cops, which seems common in all black themed productions.

My wife and I looked at episode 1. And i have mixed feeling about it. My wife grew up on the south side and found the characters stereotypical and reminiscent of the black exploitation films. Where black men a women are stupid and over sexed. The crooked black police officers are paid off by the Rental Center to protect the business to go with employees to pick up merchandise that the renter is no longer paying. In scene the protagonist and his partner go to a thugs home to pick up a Xbox he hasn’t paid the rent on. The protagonist paid the crooked cops to go with him and his partner, while getting the Xbox the thug pays the crooked female cop $100 to leave, she takes it and leaves the protagonist and his partner to possibly get beaten up. This is suppose to be funny. There are scene like this throughout the show and they’re not the funny. However, I thought a few scenes were like the first scene were the news caster completely ignored the graduation behind her and wanted to focus on the shooting the night before at that location. The protagonist and his interrupted her to talk about something positive, their graduation, I thought that was funny. I like the scenes in the rental center business, they were very funny. Overall I’m willing to watch 4 more episodes but if doesn’t get any better that the first, I’m out of here.

Not as good as TOS, TNG, Voyger, DS9 or even Enterprise. But better that STD and Picard. The first episode was boring and the actors just looked liked they were going through the paces. Clearly writers don’t know how to write episodic episodes and have gotten use to the lazy way of writing season long arcs. Pikes lesson on Earth history is the only reason why I gave this episode 2 stars. Hopefully it will get better.
