OK, I wanna start by saying just like you, I was listening to all the bad reviews and was very skeptical about getting this game. I went to a redbox location and rented it because I didn't want to spend $60 if I didn't like it. Let me tell you, I will be purchasing the game as soon as my 3 day rental period is up. Iv'e been a gamer all my life, but I don't play just any game...I only play the blockbuster games (RDR2, The last of Us, Horizon Zero Dawn...) and I am a very harsh critic. For years friends have told me to play bloodborne and other critically acclaimed games but i could never get into them. I swear, Days Gone is in the same league of all the aforementioned games. First, its open world and the world and graphics are superior to most games that are known for good graphics. If RDR2's graphics are a 10/10 i would say days Gone graphics are a 9.5/10, but one may not even notice the difference. The gunplay is literally no different from RDR2 so idk what all the fuss is about, its a 3rd person shooter and for being a 3rd person shooter gunplay is a 10/10...Theres always a trade off when playing a third person game, gunplay may be affected but on the other hand you get a view of the character and how he interacts with the environment which makes the gameplay much more intimate. One thing that stands out about thins game amongst other games is the amount of versatility it has. You can neutralize enemy camps, attack freaker hoards (zombies), Play a ton of side mission, stick to the main mission, all while leveling up your bike, weapons, and skills. Theres a lot to do and each activity is fun so you can expect to be entertained no matter what your doing throughout the game ( I hate games where I have to accomplish a task that feels like a chore). ALSO, the story is GOOD! Idk what people are talking about, bashing the story. Deek isnt selfish, hes conflicted and even on occasion abandons the code his friend wants him to uphold to choose the path of righteousness. Other times he's what you would expect of a character who's hurt and grieving the loss of his wife. Throughout the game you get a glimpse of his past which makes the story more compelling and intimate. So the story was done perfectly. I'm not sure if all the criticism is from before the update was released which must have been a big one because it took a few hours to download, but don't believe the hate. I wish I could say more about the game without spoiling it. If your the type of gamer I am, one who enjoys a game with a good, I mean great story, great graphics and great mechanics, a gamer who is mature and rose from the Play Station 1 Era and wasn't old enough to play God Of war, the type of gamer who doesn't meddle with the Fortnite B.S and understands what a TRUELY great game is, you would buy this game. Unlike Anthem, it lives up to its hype and is only secondary to the holy grail of apocalyptic games.
