Is it really a Roland Emmerich Film if it’s not being review bombed?
Starting off, I had expectations for this film, and it met them as I expected. Exceeded some actually. Roland has never been critically acclaimed for scripts or even story. He’s known as the guy that destroys the earth, again, and again.. and again. This movie did exactly what all of his other movies did, and yet people still expect so much more. His movies are CGI fun, they’re brainless, explosive, destructive, but also, shallow in terms of story. I saw someone say “2012 was a masterpiece” and I laughed. I absolutely adore Roland and all of his films, because I know what they are, as he knows what they are when he makes them. 2012’s action scenes? Incredible. Everything in between? Dragged out. Bit slow. This movie? Exactly the same. There are some seriously stunning visuals in this movie and some seriously incredible shots. The movie actually went far more into the lore of the moon and it’s history than I expected, and I loved it, that’s where it actually exceeded expectations, as I expected a quicker, less detailed resolution. So I was pleasantly surprised. The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5, was because I hoped for the action to be focused a little more on the destruction of the earth, less about the journey to the moon. I think people are forgetting how to have brainless fun, the science doesn’t matter, it never does in sci fi. Just sit back. Forget about the world. And enjoy brainless fun. As always with Emmerich films.
