I Black – Google

Visceral, brutal but disjointed and confusing at times. It can be hard to follow what the heck is going on as the story jumps between characters and timelines. It is sort of car crash fascinating to watch but can be frustrating when you don’t really know what or why the characters are doing things. There are also some moments that just don’t make any sense, like the “night club” episode of the first series. Or the crate hauling of the 2nd. However if your prepared to accept not really knowing what the heck characters are up to, and happy to get introduced to characters that rapidly and suddenly are brutally killed. Then this is a good zombie experience.

Flashy poorly constructed story that makes no sense with a plot driven by silly decisions and whiny soul searching characters. It is spectacular but lacks any real tension. One main story arc is based on one character basically risking everybody’s lives over someone they barely know and have little reason to feel responsible for. All that money spent is undermined by lack of decent plot writing. Is it really so hard to have a story which (in the silly context of zombies) makes sense in what happens, why it happens and how the characters behave?

Disappointing. Just doesn’t seem to do anything in particular with the genre. Clearly supposed to be a comedic take on the genre but doesn’t really deliver much in the way of laughs. Is very annoying in the way it breaks the 3rd wall just seemingly for the sake of doing it. It just felt like a student project but just with very good actors in the main roles. There were obviously lots of references to Romero and perhaps others that I didn’t get. The “story” feels like it took about 10 minutes to write. The main characters both seem at the extreme end of the autistic spectrum. Nothing wrong with being autistic but a bit dull when their reaction to flesh eating zombies seems to be ho, hum that’s not good. Film to watch while you do something boring.
