With wonderful shots of lush Sri Lanka as the background we discover the wealthy Tamil family living in a beautiful mansion in Columbo just at the start of the Civil War. The story has two main themes starting with their son obviously gay as he grows up in a country where this is considered sinful, befriended by his lively and beautiful aunt just returned from studying in Canada. The second theme is the violence between Tamils and the Sri Lankans which grows so horribly that the family are forced to flee for their lives. This is a wonderful and gripping story beautifully filmed by famous Indian woman director Deepa Meta.
