I cannot believe people are actually rating this 4 or 5 stars! What?? The acting is cringe worthy, and considering it’s a musical you’d think they’d be able to match up the audio to the miming! All this has going for it is the costumes and “pageantry”. I had to stop watching it early-on because it was just so bad. Camilla has a great voice but it makes me mad that people can just be thrust into these roles with no acting credibility. I’m too afraid to look up what the budget was for making this movie because there’s sure as hell got to be better uses for that sort of money especially right now. I really don’t understand how people can think this movie is any good?! Crazy.

I cannot believe the negative reviews I have seen for this film. It is brilliant! The acting is fantastic and much of the storyline reflects what many families face when they're in a cycle of family violence, poverty and addiction. I do wish the story had somehow focused more on how JD overcame each obstacle he faced to end up breaking the cycle, as I'm sure there were many more obstacles than what was summarised in the film. However, I think the portrayal of the love, hate, despair, grief, trauma and guilt that are all tied to a family members addiction and mental illness is so powerful and relatable. I was shocked to see so many negative reviews, I just do not understand it!
