Just watched the Batman (2022). Save your money if your looking for action. The movie is very much mostly suspense/drama with very few actual action scenes and a completely stupid ending. Colin Farrell, Paul Dano, Zoe Kravitz, and even Jeffery Wright all steal the scenes from Robert Pattinson (i.e.; the guy that plays the sparkly vampire in the Twilight movies). I liked his look in the Batman costume but it was obvious he did no work to get into shape for the role like Christian Bale did and otherwise I found his impression of the character to be very droll and dull. The director Matt Reeves (Planet of the Apes and Cloverfield) did a fair job but the story just wasn’t a real Batman story. A lot of elements from the Hush story were used, just in an uninteresting way. Paul Dano as the Riddler was amazing, Colin Farrell was so good and completely unrecognizable as the Penguin…(Think Tom Cruise as Les Grossman quality here). Zoe Kravitz was super hot as Selina Kyle though she is never directly referred to as Catwoman just as a cat burglar. Jeffery Wright was perfectly cast. The main problem I have with the movie is it seems to be another reboot which I believe was absolutely wrong to do. I’m perfectly comfortable with the role of Batman being recast but now the entire continuity of the DC movie universe is in shambles. Treat the role like they did with the Tim Burton movies and above all else cast an American as Batman. I’m tired of Brits in our superhero movies…they don’t really understand the characters they portray from a cultural perspective and they come off as completely narcissistic which is the Brits in any nutshell! Sorry but it’s true! Spoilers beyond this point! The ending to the movie is an utter failure. Essentially Batman ends up failing to save the day and though the Riddler/Hush ends up in Arkham it was only because he planned to be put in Arkham. The entire story is a full-on antithesis to what a Batman story is supposed to be and this Batman is everything the previous Batmen and the comic Batman is not…an utter failure.
